Perhaps the nicest weather of the four days, and definitely the smoothest terrain to run through. A fun romp. Course setter Steve Gregg had us playing a lot of boulder ping-pong with interesting leg designs to keep our minds engaged. Unfortunately, some campers decided to move control #41, affecting a few of the later runners.
The Carson High School Orienteering Club came through again with the map-stuffing and Start setup. Thank you!

The long-awaited Summer Series scores following Event #5, Donner Memorial State Park, on Monday July 28th in the Tahoe area.
Again, a few words of explanation: As with Event #4 (Northstar) I have excluded competitors who competed only in Tahoe, and will not otherwise compete in the BAOC Summer Series. For my reasoning behind that, see my message where I discussed the Event #4 scores. If I erroneously removed anyone, please let me know. It is easy to add folks back in (once I have their year of birth).
A further complication at Donner Memorial Park was that, late in the event, one of the controls was moved by a member of the public. This created clearly unfair conditions for the last half dozen competitors to pass through that control. Dennis Wildfogel undertook a very careful forensic analysis of the results, and computed a correction time for these last few competitors. I agreed with his analysis, and I have applied these corrections. Thank you Dennis.
Hence the scores and standings below are what I consider final after Event #5. Any questions or comments on any of that, please let me know.
And here's hoping for an easier time with the Scores from upcoming Event #6 at Evergreen Valley College on August 9th!
In many ways this is the most exciting time in the Series, because we are now past four events (and total scores are based on the best four scores). So the competitors who now have the higher average score per event — rather than just a consistent record at attending the most events — will rise up the tables most quickly! Things could still change a lot in both the tables!
