Our annual orienteering event at Indian Valley Community College was blessed by gorgeous spring weather, excellent courses, and an absence of large swim meets on campus. 111 groups consisting of 152 people came out. Scott Aster and Heidi Whalen were the course setters. It was Heidi's first attempt at course setting and, based on enthusiastic comments from participants, her skills will be in future demand.
The sprint course took participants through several gullies on campus as possible route choices, which delighted those adventurous enough to try the gullies. A number of participants on Brown and Orange got an additional bonus—they got to meet some of the neighbors at the adjacent (off the map) condominium complex. And a final bonus for all—the college also scheduled a motorcycle training group for an area near the first couple of controls on all the courses, and neglected to inform us. Guess it wasn't important!
Cameron Ferguson gets the Iron Man award for completing three courses: Brown (he was 3rd among those running Brown as a first course), Yellow, and White. The team of Joe & Tonya Wyckoff also attempted a trio of courses, completing White and Yellow with good times, but not quite making it around a physically challenging Orange course.
After discounting second and third courses, the winners are: White Course – Julia Doubsen, Yellow Course – David Harrison (M) and Sarah McNeil (F), Orange Course – Rick Norbutas (M) and Heidi Stenner (F), Brown Course – Dennis Wilkinson (M) and Patty Clemo (F), and Sprint Course – Ben Legg (M) and Stephanie Maclean (F).
As always, many people helped to make the event a success. Scott Aster and Heidi Whalen put in many hours as course setters. Day-of-the-event volunteers were: Ev & Jean Beuerman, Rick Budde, Evan Custer, Greg Ehrensing, Toby Ferguson, Jim Fish, Marsha Jacobs, Rosemary Johnson, Tapio Karras, Judy Koehler, Nancy Lindeman, David Meredith, Kent Ohlund, Luc Poppe, Deron van Hoff, and Theo Verhoeven. Thank you to all, and I apologize for anyone I missed, your efforts are still appreciated!

I'd like to thank Greg Ehrensing and David Meredith for their first-time volunteering at E-Punch. Their help was much appreciated. They both got the hang of the registration task pretty quickly, and you'll be seeing them at events later this summer and fall.
