Well-designed courses, set on a high-quality map, covering interesting terrain. These are the basic elements needed for a successful orienteering event. Add to that green hills, runnable forest, soft footing, wonderful views, superb weather, and a great team of volunteers. Then you have a recipe for a memorable day.
But it takes the competitors to bring it all to life. 110 of us were seen bounding over the ridges, slogging up the spurs, and dropping into the reentrants. We had a bunch of enthusiastic first timers on the White and Yellow courses. And the experienced club members came out in force. We also had competitor Brian Poon from Hong Kong, who won the elite Blue course.
Everyone should give a special thanks to Dennis Wilkinson, who spent many hours in the field and in front of his screen designing these fun courses.
It is such a pleasure to work with all the BAOC volunteers—special people.
