California Orienteering Week (COW) 2017

Type: A; National Ranking Event (NRE). Offers courses in all the OUSA competitive classes (see section A.39) and are counted in the national rankings. Note, however, that these events also have courses for recreational orienteers and do welcome beginners, and sometimes an event will consist of a combination of NRE and non-NRE events.

Sunday, March 19

Camp Scherman National Meet, day 2 (LAOC)

Tuesday, March 21

Training day (LAOC)

  • Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park, Agua Dulce, CA (~40 miles N of LAX)
  • Amazing rock formations in a park used by Hollywood to film Western movies
  • Controls will be set out and maps made available, but no formal racing

Local event: PreO and Sprint (BAOC)

  • Joaquin Miller Park, Oakland, CA (~15 miles E of San Francisco)
  • PreO (Trail-O) event
    • Preregistration required for competitive entries
    • National Ranking Event (for competitive entries)
    • Recreational (non-competitive) entries allowed
  • Sprint course
    • One course for all in a redwood forest on a new ISSOM map
    • Formal course with staggered start times, results, etc.
    • Not a U.S. National Ranking Event
    • Starts will be available from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM
    • Free with PreO preregistration
  • You can preregister for this event as part of O in the Oaks 2017 preregistration.
  • You can also register at the event for recreational PreO and/or for the Sprint.

Saturday, March 25

O in the Oaks 2017, day 1 (BAOC)

  • Pt. Pinole Regional Shoreline, Richmond, CA (~15 miles NNE of San Francisco)
  • "Extended" Middle Distance courses (that is, up to 40 controls per course)
  • U.S. National Ranking Event¹

Sunday, March 26

O in the Oaks 2017, day 2 (BAOC)

  • Briones Regional Park, Martinez, CA (~20 miles NE of San Francisco)
  • U.S. Ultra Long Championships¹
  • Mass starts
